PROTECTING GOD'S CHILDREN
As a community of faith and as individuals we have a responsibility for creating and maintaining a safe environment for children and young people. Saint Anselm Parish takes this responsibility seriously. The Diocese of Cleveland adopted a Policy for the Safety of Children in Matters of Sexual Abuse in 2003 and updated this policy in 2007. This policy involves screening, background checks and training. St. Anselm Church and School fully support and participate in this program. In accordance with the policy all Diocesan, Parish and School employees and all volunteers who come in contact with children must attend a VIRTUS training session and participate in ongoing training.
Meeting all the requirements as set forth by the policy involves completing the following 5 activities.
1. Attend a VIRTUS training session. Registration is required and can be completed online at www.virtus.org. When registering for VIRTUS make note of your user id and password, as this information will be required for the reading of on-line bulletins.
2. After attending the VIRTUS training sessions an on-line training bulletin will be posted to your VIRTUS account. One bulletin will be posted to your account each month. You are required to read these bulletins and answer a question at the end of the bulletin. You are required to read 24 bulletins over the course of two years.
3. You must have an Ohio Criminal Background check performed. If you have not been an Ohio resident for 5 years or longer you will also be required to have a F.B.I. background check. St. Anselm Church has the ability to submit fingerprints electronically for the State of Ohio background check, call the parish office to make an appointment (440-729=9575).
